Question #1 - What is the procedure for rebuilding a vehicle?
Answer: Here are the required documents for rebuilding:
- The purchase invoice of the vehicle's carcass
- The original repair estimate produced by the insurer or a certified copy by the insurer
- Colour photographs clearly showing the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle taken before the rebuild (4 photographs)
- Purchase invoices for the major parts required for the rebuild
- A colour photograph of the vehicle on the bench during straightening, when applicable
- A printed alignment bench report demonstrating that the vehicle's wheel alignment meets the manufacturer's standards, when applicable
- A welding certificate, when applicable
- Photographs of the assembly joints and the repairs carried out
- A diagnostic tool report demonstrating that the rebuilt vehicle's driver assistance systems have been successfully recalibrated, when applicable
- The recalibration invoice, when applicable
- A copy of the manufacturer's standards that were followed to repair the vehicle's damage.
Question #2 - Is it possible to get a refund of the 5% tax for exportation?
Answer: Yes, it is possible to request a refund when filing your tax claim with Revenue Canada.
